Reading v West Ham on 9/11
|
I will never forget going to see Reading v West Ham a few hours after the Towers collapsed. I really did not want to go but I was taking my daughters to their first match and so went for it. It was the strangest atmosphere I’ve ever experienced at a match and I think that the majority of us felt guilty about being there. West Ham lost but for once I really didn’t care. I don’t remember the game but just felt bad that I was there. Somethings are even more important than West Ham.

No fucking fun that day for sure, numbing on many levels
The thing about that thread was that MSM went progressively 'down' and curious shit went on
There were a few of us on here that were running through all available news sources still functioning and posting, and doing so with a source reference
Social media as such did not exist, so it was a scanning and reporting of those on the ground and what ever we could find and hear, and there were numerous saying that we were closer to reality than that formally available
Here is an absolute fact, this site of cunts, were so far ahead of the likes of the BBC output that it was quite staggering
We picked up comments from local journos that were later dumped and denied by their broadcasters Here is an example, we collated from legitimate source, radio, journos, witnesses on the ground, that the aircraft that was retrospectively 'taken out by passengers', was stated as shot down by F16's
It was indeed a tragic and strange day, but WHO's finest hour in helping. I know that the server that held that thread is long gone/emptied, but if I ever find my hard copy I will ask the mods to somehow get it back up
Oh and here is a final desperate footnote, mid thread it was posted that lads in London, and on here, were in contact with colleagues upon an open phone line speaker system with their mates, above the impact height - Canter Fitzgerald
RIP

I'm not sure 'fun' would be the right word, Swiss. We were all witnessing and commenting on the murder of 3,000 people.

I remember listening to the collapse of the towers unfold on FiveLive whilst driving to the game. It was surreal. Mind you I was never going to not go to the game. Fucking Defoe missing that penalty! Reminds me that while I'm watching football, the world could be coming to an end and I wouldn't give it a moment's thought.
And afterwards I was on a promise with this local bird who didn't disappoint. Not a complete disaster then.

Forgot about the thread at the time. Would be fun if WHO resurrected it. See the live comments at the time.

I was at College at the time. Was watching TV at home when the news broke. Went to the Reading game that night. There was talk the game would be called off. Was gutted we lost. Remember Hutchinson was awful and Defoe missed pen

I'll echo that, was at the game too but like the rest, just not with it And as for that thread on here, well, difficult to describe but with all news outlets down this place became a conduit I printed it off to retain a living history of the day - sadly misplaced That would make some re-reading

Probably the greatest thread in WHO history.
We had hundreds more active members back then, and we all watched on TV whilst commenting. A couple of WHOers had family/friends in the towers and were desperate for information.
I was still pissed off we lost to Reading though. Fucking Reading?!

Remember it very well. Got home from work after watching everything unfold. My wife was surprised when I said I was going. Lost on pens, Defoe missed. I suppose looking back it shows how much the club/team means to us, we'd turn up after a nuclear disaster in the hope of a win

Remember the thread on here as it was all unfolding. All the other main news sites were down so this was a lot of people's main source that day
